The Imbalance of Power and the Back to School Nightmare.

It's that time of the year again.  Millions of children go back to school, and I thank God that I don't teach High School anymore.  It's not that I didn't like teaching- it's because I rarely got the chance to teach. I was more of a civilian policewoman, not an educator. 

I think it's important to remember what the American High School has evolved into, and to be aware of the challenges students, teachers and parents face.  I just saw a story on the Today show about how schools are asking parents to purchase long lists of supplies that would normally be provided by the school.  I do not understand how there isn't enough damn money for books, computers, or to hire trained professionals.  I mean, there are people giving each other 8 million dollar handshakes on Wall Street, and we are pink-slipping teachers, bankrupting families, and destroying the hope of our youth.

How can we right the imbalance of power?  How can we get our government to stop fighting and get something done?  I'm thinking of the French Revolution.
